Students from Lafayette attend schools within the Boulder Valley School District. Currently, there are approximately 40 elementary schools, 20 middle schools and 13 high schools within the district. There are also several private and parochial schools in the area. Institutions of higher learning nearby include Front Range Community College, Naropa University, the University of Colorado at Boulder and at Denver and the Colorado Art Academy.
In addition to good schools, Lafayette provides a wealth of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy. The community has 15 neighborhood parks with a variety of amenities and several larger community parks. Waneka Lake offers boat rentals and a jogging-fitness trail. The Bob L. Burger Recreation Center has a gymnasium, racquetball courts and programs for all ages. Of course, the Rocky Mountains offer nearly unlimited opportunities for hiking and biking, rock climbing, water sports, fishing and boating. For winter sports, there are about 10 ski resorts within a 100-mile drive from the area. The Indian Peaks Golf Course is a championship 18-hole golf course designed by golf champion Hale Irwin that is located right in town. For those seeking out some cultural activities, the Cultural Arts Center and Miner’s Museum are located in Lafayette. When it comes to shopping, Lafayette is the place to be. There are a variety of stores from major retailers to antique shops located in the city. Shopping areas include Lafayette Old Town, Centaur Village Plaza and Coal Creek Shopping Center. Additionally the new $250+ million Flatirons Shopping Center, complete with theater complex and great restaurants is just 15 or so minutes away. |
